On September 14 at approximately 5:55pm the Chipley Police Department received a call in reference to a disturbance in the area of Church Street. The complainant told CPD officers that she got into an argument with two white men that were walking down Church Street. She said that while she was in her car she held her cell phone in her hand. She said that one of the subjects stated to the other that “She’s calling the police”.
The complainant stated at that time both subjects pulled out guns and began shooting at her. The complainant didn’t get struck, but officer’s located damage on her car from the shots that were consistent with damage caused from a BB gun. The complainant identified the two subjects as 37 year old Larry Neal Hice of Laney Road Chipley and 23 year old Gordon Ray Wood of Knotch Pond Road Chipley. A few minutes’ later officers got out with Wood while walking on the Campbelton Hwy. Wood fled on foot from the officers but was caught after a short foot chase.
Officers located a BB gun pistol in Wood’s waistband along with methamphetamine. Officers also discovered that Wood was on probation in Alabama for a robbery. Wood was transported to the Washington County Jail where he was also charged with aggravated assault without intent to kill. Now days these BB guns resemble the real thing so much that this could have turned out to be a very dangerous situation.
