DOTHAN, AL- The Tri-State BBQ Festival in Dothan, Alabama, is pleased to have been chosen as one of four cities in the nation selected as a filming location for Destination America’s television series, BBQ Pit Wars. The television series, now in its second season, is extremely popular among cooks, barbecue enthusiasts and foodies alike. The success of the program is partly due to the popularity of food-based television shows right now, and the rest is attributed to the colorful personalities on the program and the locations of the barbecue competitions they feature.

BBQ Pit Wars is a food competition series that takes four teams chosen for their legendary barbecue skills and places them into various professional barbecue competitions around the country to see who will win. It also gives local competition barbecue teams the opportunity to see how they stack up against well-known professional cook teams who are considered the best of the best. They will be filming a little on Friday, April 10th, but will do the bulk of their shooting on Saturday, April 11th at the Houston County Farm Center. The series is set to premiere on Destination America this summer.

The celebrity teams scheduled to appear include Myron Mixon’s “Jack’s Old South” team, 2014 Kingsford Challenge grand champion Robby Royal and the “Rescue Smokers”, restauranteur Michael Character from “Character’s BBQ” and Texan Ernest Sevantes and his “Burnt Bean BBQ Company”.

The Tri-State BBQ Festival is celebrating its 10th year in Dothan, and is pleased to be a part of the state of Alabama’s “Year of Barbecue” proclamation from the State tourism board. Besides hosting over five dozen competition teams for the event, the BBQ festival also features live music, a whole hog cooking class, food and merchandise vendors, sweet tea contest, gizzard competition, a car show, live music, youth grilling competition, a BMX stunt show and even a reptile discovery program for all. Admission is $10 per person per day and children 6 and under are free. More information can be found at TriStateBBQ.com or by calling The Main Event at (334) 699-1475.
