Dothan — Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the construction of its 122nd home at a dedication ceremony Saturday, June 21st at 606 Chinook in Dothan. The new homeowners, Clyde and his son Buddy McKenzie, are very thankful to all those who worked so hard to help them reach this goal. Many different organizations helped to make Mr. Porter's home a reality. They include: Covenant United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Dothan, First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Harbor Church, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Larry Blumberg & Associates, and The Dothan Eagle.
Many of the volunteers, including Covenant United Methodist, First Baptist Church of Dothan and First United Methodist who raised the walls with us, will be participating in the dedication of the home. The family will be presented with the key to their new home as well as a Bible. The McKenzies and their friends and family have performed 500 sweat equity hours working on their home and the homes of others as a requirement for becoming Habitat homeowners.
Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity and the McKenzies would like to invite the community to celebrate with them as well as the volunteers who spent many hours of their free time to help build this home. The dedication and celebration of the home will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21st.
Through donations of money and materials and volunteer labor, Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity was able to build the home and sell it at an affordable price. The McKenzies will purchase the home with a no-profit loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to continue the mission of eliminating substandard housing in the Wiregrass.
Amy Schutz, Executive Director with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, said " Home dedication and celebration is always one of the most exciting and rewarding days for us as we are able to walk through the new home with a new homeowner. They have worked hard to see this day arrive."
