Effective immediately, the Dothan Fire Department has issued a “No Burn Order” within the City Limits of Dothan. No burn permits will be issued by the Fire Prevention Division until significant rainfall is received in this area. “This order also includes burning yard debris in containers”, according to Fire Marshal Chris Etheredge.
Although a Drought Emergency and Burn Ban has not been issued by the State in our area, officials have issued the order inside the City limits to ensure the safety of citizens and their property. The Southeast region of Alabama is currently under a Fire Alert issued by the Alabama Forestry Commission.
Fire Chief Larry Williams says, “The safety of our citizens and the protection of their property will always be paramount in our decision making process”. Williams continues, “due to the lack of rainfall, coupled with low humidity and windy conditions over the past weeks, conditions are too dangerous to allow any outdoor burning at this time”.
Dothan Fire officials will continue to monitor the current weather / drought situation and update the public as conditions warrant.
