Dothan Man Charged with Attempted Murder

On April 22nd, 2015 the Dothan Police Department responded to the 200 block of Sweetwater Drive in reference to a disorderly conduct complaint involving Kevin Barnes. Upon arrival, an officer attempted to make contact with the occupants of the apartment by knocking on the door and identifying himself as a policeman. Immediately after that announcement, the officer heard what he knew to be a gunshot. After retreating to a position of cover, the officer observed an older female exit the apartment, followed immediately by a second gunshot that shattered a glass sliding door, approximately three feet from the front entrance.
Upon the arrival of additional officers, Barnes was disarmed and identified as the shooter. Barnes was then taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for psychological evaluation prior to being taken to the Dothan City Jail. He has been charged with attempted murder.
- Kevin Javon Barnes, black male, 30 years of age, of Sweetwater Drive was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder. Barnes is being held without bond.
All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
