On 9-26-2012, a 1995 Chevrolet Astro van was northbound on State Road 73. A 1995 Chevrolet truck was stopped facing North, behind a 2003 Toyota Camry waiting for it to turn left onto Lancer Road. A 1996 Lincoln Town Car was southbound approaching the Astro, the Chevrolet truck, and the Toyota Camry. The driver of the Astro van failed to observe the Chevrolet truck and the Toyota Camry stopped.
The driver of the Astro attempted to stop the vehicle, however the left front of his vehicle collided with the right rear of the Chevrolet truck. This caused the truck to rotate and collide with the left side of the Lincoln Town Car with its left front. The Chevrolet, while rotating, also collided with the Camry’s rear with its right side.
The Astro that initially caused the crash rotated counter clockwise and eventually rolled onto it’s right side and came to final rest in a ditch on the East side of the roadway. The driver of the Astro, Alan F. Vasquez, was transported to South East Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased from the injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Astro has been identified as Alan F. Vasquez, 49, of Dothan, Alabama. All other drivers suffered only minor injuries and were not transported to the hospital. The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
