In a dazzling event held Saturday evening April 13th at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center, in Birmingham AL, Mrs. Rebecca Suggs was crowned Mrs. Alabama United States 2014.
"I couldn’t be more thrilled", Rebecca said in an interview. "It’s a dream come true for me, definitely a blessing and honor! I’m very proud to represent Alabama, my community, and my family in the Mrs. United States Pageant.
“Many women do not know that heart disease is the number one killer of American women. I want to use my platform to educate women about heart disease and what can be done through prevention to change that reality in our lives and in the lives of our children and families. I will share the message of The Go Red for Women Campain."
Both Rebecca and her husband, Paul Suggs, work in healthcare at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. At the hospital, they see the effects of poor heart health practices and heart disease. They have chosen a healthy plan for their blended family that includes five boys. As parents, they focus the family toward proper nutrition, regular check-ups and lots of physical activity. Hiking and tennis are favorite family activities. Rebecca and Paul enjoy daily gym workouts at SAMC’s Living Well Fitness center and Synergy Health & Fitness. They are members of Bay Springs Baptist Church and the younger three boys enjoy playing football and baseball in Wicksburg where they attend school.
Mrs. Suggs is excited to compete in the Mrs. United States pageant in Las Vegas July 20-25, 2014. "I know it will be a magical, unforgettable experience, and I’m passionate about sharing my platform not just with Alabama women, but with wives and moms all over the country."
The new Mrs. Alabama United States, who also won both the Fitness and Most Photogenic awards, volunteers and speaks on behalf on SAMC’s Heart & Soul initiative and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She is available for interviews, talk shows, and is happy to speak to women’s clubs and groups.
