DOTHAN:    In 2010 Greg Benton was appointed as Dothan Police Chief.  At the time of Benton's appointment, the Dothan Police Department was in chaios.

There was zero trust or confidence within the department or within the command structure. From the top to the bottom, no confidence.

From the start Chief Benton aligned himself with strong leaders. His first choice was to bring Captain Steve Parrish to Major, second in command of the police department.

In five short years Powell did all that could be done to destroy the Dothan Police Department.

Chief Benton and Major Parrish rolled up their sleeves and went to work.

Since 2010 they have worked to straighten out the turmoil within the department. They worked to regain the trust of the men and women of the Dothan Police Department and the trust of the community.

Chief Benton worked to rid the department of some cancers.

Former Chief Powell got rid of good men and women, Benton  worked to get rid of the cancers of the department.

The removal of those cancers gave the staff confidence in management with integrity rather than the Powell manage by fear and intimidation.

Chief Benton and Major Parrish, with the command staff, started public relations events. The Coffee With A Cop, the National Night Out at Dothan Civic Center, Junior Police  Academy and formed a Community Services Division all started under Chief Benton.

Chief Benton also established a line of succession within the Police Department.

With the position of Major, he made sure there was someone in command when he was gone. Somone that he had confidence in that could manage the entire department. Someone with ethics and wisdom to lead and someone that had the respect of the men and women of the Dothan Police Deoartment.

With his retirement, Chief Benton has full confidence the leadership of the department was in place to carry on without interuption.

Chief Benton, THANKS for your service to the City of Dothan since 2010, and for the past 25 years.

Chief Benton, your legacy will be one of fairness and productivity for the Dothan Police Department.
