Dothan Police Investigating Death In Dothan City Jail

DOTHAN:  An alert Dothan Police Jail staff were quick to find a person in the Dothan City Jail which had apparently hung himself in his jail cell.

Dothan Jail staff were quick to begin emergency treatment and Dothan Fire were called to the scene. The inmate was transported emregency to SAMC by Pilcher Ambulance.

Shortly after arrival the patient was pronunced dead.

The person was reported to have been in a cell by himself. He is reported to have been in jail on a misdemeanor domestic violence offense.

Dothan Police Criminal Investigators and Internal Affairs Investigators along with Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd are invstigating the death. An autopsy will be performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. Autospies are automatic for persons that die while in the custody of law enforcement.

There is absolutely no suspicion of foul play.
