DOTHAN: At 4:23 AM Dothan 911 dispatched units to Headland Avenue and Ross Clark Circle to the Regions Bank. Some ATM Bandits were stealing to ATM Machine. The burglar alarm had sounded and Dothan 911 dispatched the units to the scene.
Dothan Police Officers, under the shift command of Sgt. Lee Nelms and Sgt. Watson responded quickly. A Dothan Officer jumped a suspect vehicle, a van, northbound on Headland Avenue. As the officer stopped the vehicle two suspects bailed on foot. Two suspects remained at the vehicle and were apprehended.
Some Dothan Officers remained with the two and some gave chase. One suspect that fled was apprehended. The foot chase started around Headland Avenue and Oakland Drive. Evidence was found near a residence on Oakland Drive.
Dale - Houston County Sheriff Air Unit was dispatched to the scene by Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson. Track dogs were called in. Dothan was assisted by Houston County Sheriff Department and Headland Police.
From 4:23 AM until after 7 AM Dothan, Houston County, Dale County and Headland Law Enforcement Officers searched the area for the last of the four suspects.
The suspects used a "cherry picker" type fork lift to knock over the ATM machine. They apparently were attempting to load the ATM machine in the van when Dothan Police units "rudely" interrupted them. The cherry picker was apparently stolen from the 3700 block of Ross Clark Circle and driven to the scene.
The suspects apprehended are from the Atlanta Georgia area.
Dothan Criminal Investigators under the command of Lt. Will Benny are working the details of the theft. Tommy Ferguson Wrecker removed the cherry picker from the scene and secured for Dothan Police for processing.
GREAT JOB on the apprehension of the ATM bandits.
