DOTHAN: Today there was a youthful offender trial scheduled before 20th Judicial Circuit Court JudGE Mike Conaway. The youthful offender trial was an appeal from Dothan Municipal Court to Houston County Circuit Court.
When Judge Conaway called the case for trial there was no prosecutor from the City of Dothan Legal Department ( Freddie Len White or Joe Herring ) present.
Judge Conaway asked Mark Johnson, prosecutor for the 20th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. Johnson quickly informed Judge Conaway this case was one of the City of Dothan appeals from Municipal Court to Circuit Court and not one of the District Attorney's cases.
With that said Judge Conaway said "case dismissed" and threw the case out of court. Judge Conaway then turned to his assistant with instructions to call Dothan City Attorney Len White and have him come to his office.
White apparently had no time for Judge Conaway. Reports are about two hours later Dothan City Assistant Attorney Joe Herring came strolling into the courthouse to see what was Judge Conaway's problem.
The instructiins from Judge Conaway was for Len White to come to Judge Conaway's office. But he did not report as directed.
A lot of people have told members of the Dothan Commission the legal department of the City of Dothan, in particular Freddie Len White and Joe Herring need to be gone. But apparently he has something on them because they let him get by with whatever he wants.
Congratulations to the young man who had his case dismissed because Dothan's Legal Department failed to appear in court. If it was a defendant he would go to jail.
But Dothan does not even have to follow the Judge's direction....."have Len White report to my office" ... Send Joe Herring!
