The City of Dothan will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, July 30, 2015 to discuss the proposed changes to the Dothan Utilities Code of Ordinances. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm at the Dothan Opera House.
During the meeting, representatives of Dothan Utilities will provide an overview of how the proposed rate increases and code modifications will address the following:

• Electric and wastewater charges
• Customer deposits and fees
• Provide additional benefits to the Dothan Utilities Customers
• Make into law the operating policies that are currently in place
• Clean-up the current code by clarifying and updating terms (capitalization, wording, grammar, etc.)

With the proposed electric rate increase, the twelve month average increase to a residential customer’s bill will
be approximately $1.31 based upon 1,479 kWh usage (average residential power usage). For wastewater, the
proposal is for an annual increase of $0.75 to the existing sewer rate per 1,000 gallons of metered water over the
next three years. Therefore, a customer using 6,000 gallons of water each month, will see an increase in their
monthly sewer bill of $4.50. For example, where the sewer portion of 6,000 gallon bill is currently $29.64, there
will be an increase to $34.14 in October 2015. In October of 2016, that same bill will become $38.64, and in
October 2017, $43.14.
In order to ensure that citizens fully understand the proposed changes, the City of Dothan is providing the following
documents: Ordinance with Proposed Changes (35 pages), Summary of the Proposed Ordinance Changes (3
Pages), PowerPoint of the Electric Cost of Service and Rate Design Study, an Overview of Proposed Rate Changes,
and a Sewer Cost Comparison Graph. The documents are available for pick-up in the Administration Office
located on the 2nd Floor of the Dothan Civic Center in Suite 201. The files can also be downloaded from the City
of Dothan’s website at www.dothan.org by clicking on the homepage’s “Spotlight Feature Story.”
