On September 27, 2012 the Dothan Police Department received a report of a person down at the intersection of Montgomery Highway and Murphy Mill Road at 5:40 p.m.  A Houston County Deputy was the first on scene and advised the victim was conscious and breathing but in critical condition. The Deputy stated the victim was struck by a vehicle which had fled the scene and as a result, the victim was thrown over the bridge. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition and is being treated for a broken neck, broken vertebrae, a bruised lung and various other injuries.

Dothan Police arrived on scene within minutes and took over the investigation during which they determined that this was a domestic related murder attempt. Information developed in the case revealed the victim; an adult male was traveling on Montgomery Highway in the company of his girlfriend Jayela Regina Marie McShane. The victim was driving the vehicle when the two parties began arguing.  He parked the vehicle, got out, and proceeded to walk on Montgomery Highway.  The suspect began driving the vehicle, circled back on Montgomery Highway and stuck the victim before leaving the scene.

A description of the suspects’ vehicle was broadcast for on duty officers who began an immediate search for the vehicle. The vehicle was located a short time later in the 600 block of Canterbury Farms Road in Midland City. Officers continued searching for the suspect throughout the night and into the early morning hours. As a result of this effort, the suspect was located and taken into custody just after 7:00 a.m. this morning.

The Dothan Police Department would like to thank the Houston County Sheriffs Office for their assistance with this case.

·        Jayela Regina Marie McShane, black female, 23 years of age, of Dothan was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder with bond being set later today.
