On May 2, 2014 the Dothan Police Department arrested Phyllis Bennett, charging her with second degree assault, in reference to the edged weapon attack which occurred on April 28th at 2505 Montgomery Highway.
The arrest was made after investigators received information through the “Crime-stoppers” tip line of a possible suspect of the attack. Investigators made contact with Bennett and through further investigation, determined she was responsible for the assault. Investigators say neither Bennett, nor the victim knew each other and the incident appears to be a random act with no motive.
The Dothan Police Department would like to thank the community for their immediate help in identifying and apprehending this individual, which now brings this case to a close.
- Phyllis Lavette Bennett, black female, 49 years of age, of Sioux Street was arrested and charged with Second Degree Assault. A bond amount has been set at $250,000.00.
All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
