The Downtown Group (DTG), a medium to focus on commerce, culture and community in Dothan downtown, will host the first Foster Fest of 2015 this Friday, May 15h and is proud to feature the Jessica Morris Band on the North Foster Street Stage, and Avenue Switch on the South Foster Street Stage.  “We want to kick things off in a big way and keep our momentum going every third Friday each month through our last event on Friday, October 16th,“ stated Downtown Group Board Member, Alice Beckham.

In addition to the great music, the classic car and motorcycle shows will offer trophies for the top three in each category this year. All cars and bikes interested in participating should register their ride in Porter Park between 4-7PM to be eligible for prizes and trophies. At the end of the year, all winners from each month will be invited to participate in a special show with larger trophies and a cash prize. The car and bike shows are sponsored by Harley Davidson of Dothan, A Cut Above Carpentry, and 2D’s Motorsports.

Foster Fest events are free, pet and family-friendly and take place on the third Fridays of May through October from 6:00 – 10:00pm.  South Foster Street features extended hours for patrons this year, as the 100 block will be closed until midnight. This month, the events include the 100 and 200 blocks of North Foster Street as well as the 100 block of South Foster. There are vendors on every block, with a “Vendor Village” featured in the 100 block of N. Foster.

New this year is the WTVY Family Fun area. Event coordinator Kerry Farrell explains, “The WTVY Family Fun Area is a place for families to come and enjoy some great activities especially focused on our youth. Most of the activities are free, but there are a few that charge, such as the obstacle course.  We are providing one bounce house that’s free to play on, and many of the area’s non-profits will be offering games and activities as well.”

Foster Fest is sponsored by Coors Light, Miller Lite and WTVY TV.  Patrons can purchase adult beverages at any licensed bar within the footprint of the event and carry it onto the street for enjoyment as long as it is in a shatterproof container (no glass).  There are many bars and businesses participating in Foster Fest by offering drink specials and extended business hours.

The following are the dates for Foster Fest in 2015:

  • Friday, May 15

  • Friday, June 19

  • Friday, July 17

  • Friday, August 21

  • Friday, September 18

  • Friday, October 16
