HENRY COUNTY: Looks like the citizens and their children are being held hostage in their education issues in Henry County.
This morning I was in Abbeville. A local TV station reporter was attempting to contact members of the Henry County Board of Education for comments.
First, the Superintendent, Lesa Knowles, well she was to busy and could not do an interview. Her assistant told the reporter she was not going to have any time for interview.
The reporter called Jean Bush. A male answered the phone and is reported to have told the reporter she would not speak to the media.
The phone number for Dorothea Culver was a non working number.
The reporter left a message at Mary Wiggins work for her to call.
Apparently the reporter has spoken to other members of the Henry County Board of Education.
DRAMA
Apparently there was drama at a recent Henry County Board of Education meeting. Three board members, Culver, Wiggins and Bush refused to approve the agenda for the meeting. So there was no meeting.
There was recent drama when the board terminated a teacher/coach in Headland. They gave no reason. Later they did the right thing and reinstated the teacher/coach.
There is on going drama in the Henry County Board of Education. And when they refuse to speak to the media, which is the mechanism to speak to the public, the public does not know what is going on.
FOR THE RECORD: I have not asked. Moments ago I sent a facebook message to Culver asking her to call me. I have not kept up with the drama. The reason, from my experience in covering school boards, they are a useless part of government. Most have no clue what is on going.
MEETING TONIGHT: Culver did post the following on FACEBOOK there was a meeting tonight at 4:45 PM in Abbeville at the Henry County Board of Education Building.
