OZARK ALABAMA: Ozark Police were notified last evening February 2, 2014 at approximately 10:00 p.m. of a possible gunshot assault on Young Avenue near the intersection of Young Avenue and Yancey Street. Upon arrival of law enforcement and rescue personnel a 17 year old male victim was located in the street of Yancey Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim was transported by Ozark Ambulance Service to Dale Medical Center where he later died from injuries sustained in the shooting. The victim is identified as Christian Alexander Mark of
Ozark. Agents with the 33 rd Judicial Circuit Violent Crimes Task
Force responded to the scene, along with investigators from the Ozark Police Department's Criminal Investigative Division.
Investigators have worked through the night following several leads and progress is being made in the case.
During the preliminary investigation agents were able to identify a possible motive in the homicide, but due to the ongoing investigation no additional information will be released at this time regarding the motive.
Investigators were able to use several technological advantages during the course of the investigation which aided in developing several persons of interest.
Shortly after 8:00 a.m. the Ozark Police Department's Special Operation Group executed a search warrant on the west side of the city. During the execution of the warrant two suspects were taken into custody and transported to headquarters for questioning. Following interviews with investigators and after consultation with the District Attorney the suspects were charged regarding the crime. Investigators have charged Quashawn Marquise Knight, age 18 of Ozark with Murder. Additionally, a 15 year old juvenile of Ozark was also charged with Murder. Knight was placed in the Dale County Jail without bond. The juvenile was released to the Alabama Department of Youth Services and transported to the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center.
The investigation is currently ongoing and additional arrests are forthcoming. The weapon believed to have been used in commission of the murder has been recovered and will be forwarded to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further examination.
