(Dothan, AL-February 4, 2013)Since its creation in 1969 by former Houston County Sheriff A.B. Clark, DSI Security Services has provided armed and unarmed security officers to a variety of Government and Commercial customers. These include numerous Federal Government Agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Presidential Libraries, and several Military Installations.
DSI has also provided service to Nuclear Facilities and Government Defense Contractors. We have also performed consulting services and placed armed and unarmed security officers in Colleges, Universities, and Public School Systems. On January 28, 2013 we began unarmed security services at nine (9) Houston County Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. This is just one component of the overall safety and security plan in place at these locations. Effective February 11, 2013 the officers assigned to these schools will be providing armed services. The majority of the officers assigned to the Houston County School System have prior military and/or law enforcement experience, and each has been through a comprehensive training program as mandated by the Alabama Security Regulatory Board (ASRB), and internal DSI policy.
Each officer assigned will be licensed in accordance with the rules enacted by the ASRB, and State Law. This includes a weapons qualifications course by a certified NRA/former law enforcement instructor where each officer must demonstrate the proficiency necessary to earn an armed certification, and classroom training on the use of force and a variety of other related topics. In addition to the armed officer training process, each officer is subjected to a national criminal background check by the State of Alabama, and as an additional safeguard, DSI’s own internal background check procedures.
We at DSI realize that in order for our officers to be successful at any assignment there must be a strong Private/Public partnership. We have always recognized the vital role that law enforcement plays in responding to crimes in progress, and in being proactive to prevent any occurrences. The assignment at The Houston County Schools is no different. We are, and have always been, committed to working with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department and other State and Local law enforcement agencies. Per our normal training curriculum, officers are instructed to report criminal activity to law enforcement. We look forward to continuing to assist the Houston County School System in their efforts to increase security and safety at each school.
