DALE COUNTY:   In a joint investigation between Dale County Sheriff Department, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Dale County Coroner Woody Hildoldt, the teams finally reached the point of removing the body of JImmy Lee Dykes from the scene last night.

On Monday agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided the bulnker where Dykes was held captive for 6 days. Since the raid investigators have comebed the scene for evidence. Even though the shooter was killed the scene was investigated and processed as if the case was to be tried in court. A team from Washington D.C. responded to the scene for a review of all actions.

The body of Dykes will be transported to Montgomery Alabama where an autopsy will be performed on the body. Following the autopsy the body will be released to next of kin for burial or cremation.

In no one claims the body then Dale County will be responsible for indigent burial.

Several years ago in Jackson County Florida two gunman ambushed Jackson County Sheriff Johnny McDaniel’s wife as she arrived at home. Sheriff McDaniel was speaking to his wife on the Nextel as she arrived at home and she informed him someone was in the yard. Moments later Sheriff McDaniel head Mrs/ McDaniel scream and he could never get her to respond.

Sheriff McDaniel then yelled over the Jackson County Sheriff primary radio for deputies to respond to his home. The first deputy who arrived on the scene was ambushed by the two gunman as he arrived. As Sheriff McDaniel drove in two deputies drove in with the Sheriff. As McDaniel jumped from his SUV Patrol vehicle running to his wife the two deputies keeping the scene under gunfire spotted the two suspects and killed them.

One of the two shooters body was never claimed by next of kin. It then became the responsibilty of Jackson County for indigent burial of the body.

So far I have not heard anything on family coming forth for Dykes. We will see if anyone claims the man which brutally shot and killed Chuck Polland as he defended the children on the bus. Following the killing a man who held an innocent 5 year old child hostage in an underground bunker.
