DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY: Since I am on the Dothan - Houston County E-911 Advisory Committee I try and refrain from writing many articles about what we did in the meeting.
Lance Griffin with The Dothan Eagle was there and summed the meeting pretty well. So here is a link to his article.
A committee assigned to advise the Dothan/Houston County E911 board wrestled Wednesday with the dilemma of hiring a full-time coordinator whose job description could change in two or three years.
After more than an hour of discussion, the E911 Advisory Committee plans to recommend the hiring of a full-time coordinator on a contract basis, allowing for flexibility in the position for the future.
Major changes are expected to take place in the way E911 is administered over the next three years. Currently, E911 is administered by a joint board consisting of the Dothan mayor and commissioners along with the Houston County Commission chairman and one commissioner. The salary of the workers dedicated to E911 are paid by the City of Dothan, then reimbursed through E911 funds.
