MONTGOMERY: EDUCATORS Beware - you are about to be ambushed by the Alabama Legislature!!!
The Alabama Legislators ( some of them not all of them ) are sticking their butts in the face of Alabama Governor Robert Bentley and rejecting his budget. There are some of the legislators feel they know more than the Governor.
Governor Bentley placed in the budget a 2% cost of living raise and no increase in the state employees insurance premium.
Some of the Alabama Legislators said NO to the Governor. They have passed a budget with a 1% raise, a one time cost of living raise for one year only. With that raise, the state employees will be required to pay $ 81.00 a month in insurance premiums. That raise will cost the state employees almost $ 1,000.00 more.
There goes the raise!!!
If you do not want the $ 81.00 a month increase, you need to call members of the Alabama Legislature. It is my understanding that Senator Harri Anne Smith and State Representative Dexter Grimsley voted against the budget proposed by the legislators and they support Governor Bentley's budget.
In the wiregrass area, call State Representative Paul Lee ( Dothan ), Alan Booth ( Troy ), Steve Clouse ( Ozark ), Donnie Chesteen ( Geneva ), Barry Moore ( Enterprise ) Mike Jones ( Andalusia ), Senator Jimmy Holley ( Enterprise ), Senator Bryan Taylor ( Prattville - Troy ).
RETIREES - you could owe the state money for your insurance when all is said and done. The 1% will not be handed to the retirees but the increase will.
The Alabama Legislature is entering the final stretch of this legislative session. Each day, each hour counts. What they do will not be able to be redone. So you had better burn the phones up...or tooo late.
