I am sending this message to express my concern for the city I was born and reared in, Ozark. After discovering that our city council hired Marlos Walker as the new Chief of Police I found myself wondering about their competence to run the city.  There were other candidates for this position who are far more qualified for that position.  There was Charles Ward, a Captain, who has been with the Alabama State Troopers for 30 years and for the past several years has basically managed all the troopers for the state from his office in Montgomery. Bobby Blankenship, a Captain with Ozark Police, who has 24 years of service and experience with this city and who is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and a training instructor.  Myron Williams who used to be the Deputy Chief for the Ozark Police Dept. and I have been told that he has a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice.  This is a slap in the face of these men who are, along with others, more qualified for the position of Chief of Police then Marlos Walker.  I know that their excuse will be, he has been a Chief already.  Yes he has, in a small town for only a year and caused turmoil in a short time.  This is injustice for the citizens of Ozark who voted these people in to serve the city to the best of their ability.  If this is the best they can do then they need to reconsider there position and loyalty to the city.  It is also injustice to the police officers who now have to deal with this decision.  I guess it does not matter what you know but who you know, which brings me to another point.  Marlos Walker was basically raised by the Gilland's therefore he is a Gilland with a different name.  Andy Gilland is the president of the city council so do think there was any influence on his behalf?  Mr. Mayor I understand that the council makes the decision on hiring for this position but this is wrong and as the good man I voted for and know you are, you need to resolve this problem before it is to late.
