In October of 2015, Fire Station #1 (600 Columbia Highway) was temporarily closed and response units relocated as a result of mold remediation that must be conducted at that station. Effective today, February 5, 2016, Paramedic Engine #1 will be operating out of Old Station #1 on East Burdeshaw Street.
According to Fire Chief Larry Williams, “It was very important to get that unit back in their primary response district as soon as possible”. Williams credits the City’s General Services Department for getting the closed fire station back in working order to house our members. Old Fire Station #1 has been closed for nearly 16 years as those units were relocated in 2000 to the Columbia Highway location.
Chief Williams continued, “We are always monitoring response times and impact to our citizens”. “This move, for the duration of the remediation project was the most effective and economical way to provide the very best service to our citizens”, Williams concluded. A timeline on completion of the project is still being developed at this time.
