RNN) - Replicas of one of the most famous cars in TV history will no longer be made to sit on fans' shelves.

The only vendor licensed to produce miniature models of the "General Lee," the car from the TV show The Dukes of Hazzard, is not allowed to make it anymore. The orange 1969 Dodge Charger had a Confederate flag emblazoned on its roof.

Vulture originally reported the story. Warner Brothers Consumer Products pulled the license for Indiana-based Round 2, which sold die-cast replicas and model kits of the famed vehicle.

It was famously known as the muscled-up ride of Bo and Luke Duke, the show's main characters. The show, which ran from 1979 to 1985, was set in the rural South in the fictional Hazzard County.

The car had a popularity that rivaled any of the actors in the show, but collectors and fans will now have to work that much harder to find one.

The decision was a total turn from Warner Brothers' earlier position. The company previously told the New York Times it was "not planning to change the design of the General Lee on merchandise."

Ben Jones, who played Cooter on The Dukes of Hazzard, has defended the display of the Confederate flag. He owns stores in Tennessee and Virginia that sell memorabilia from the show, and he vowed to never pull items that feature the flag from shelves.

"I think all of Hazzard nation understands that the Confederate battle flag is the symbol that represents the indomitable spirit of independence which keeps us 'makin' our way the only way we know how,'" Jones said Tuesday in a post on his Facebook page. "That flag on top of the General Lee made a statement that the values of the rural South were the values of courage and family and good times."
