Escambia County Sheriff Suffers Gunshot Wound Earlier Today

Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith is in stable condition at a Mobile hospital after being shot in the right arm today during a standoff in Flomaton, Ala., according to Kevin Cook, a spokesman for the Alabama State Troopers.

Today at approximately 11 a.m. Smith was shot while conducting official business at the residence of James Arrington Jr., 62, of Flomaton.

After shooting Smith, Arrington then took his own life, according to Cook.
