Abbeville (December 12, 2012) — Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the construction of its 118th home at a dedication ceremony Friday, December 21st at 102 Crawford Street, Abbeville. The new homeowners, Gregory Porter and his daughters, are very grateful to all those who worked so hard to help them reach this goal. Many different organizations helped to make Mr. Porter's home a reality. They include: Wells Fargo Bank, Larry Blumberg Associates, Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity Women Build, State Farm, and BBVA Compass Bank.
Many of the volunteers, including Evergreen Presbyterian Church from Dothan who raised the walls with us, will be participating in the dedication of the home. The family will be presented with the key to their new home as well as a Bible. The Porters and their friends and family have performed 500 sweat equity hours working on their home and the homes of others as a requirement for becoming Habitat homeowners.
Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity and the Porters would like to invite the community to celebrate with them as well as the volunteers who spent many hours of their free time to help build this home. The dedication and celebration of Mr. Porter's home will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 21st.
Through donations of money and materials and volunteer labor, Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity was able to build the home and sell it at an affordable price. The Porters will purchase the home with a no-profit loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to build more Habitat houses.
Amy Schutz, Executive Director with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, said "The dedication of Mr. Porter's home is a dream become reality for not only his family, but those of us at Wiregrass Habitat as well. Home dedication and celebration is always one of the most exciting and rewarding days for us as we are able to walk with them through their new home."
