MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
There's outrage in west Montgomery over halted work on a home destroyed by fire.
A couple lost two of their children in a horrific blaze and community leaders pledged to help them rebuild.
But a year and a half has passed and there's been no construction, leaving many wondering what happened.
Jessica Byrd, 24, continues to rebuild her life after a devastating fire and gets emotional at the spot on Alexander Street where her family's home used to stand. Now, it's still just a vacant lot that's surrounded by controversy.
“It hurts to know what actually happened and the lies and stories that were told of things that were supposed to happen, didn't happen,” she said.
The Montgomery family lost everything when a toaster oven being used to heat the house on a cold January night in 2015, sparked a fire that killed 1-month-old Ty'Leah Jackson and 3-year-old Tymothy Jackson, Jr. and left their sister, Ty'Breanna, suffering from severe burns. Their father, Tymothy Jackson Sr., was also burned as the frantic couple tried to rescue their children from the burning structure.
