Family to receive keys to a new Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity

home in Ozark thanks to the support of the Publix Super Market Charities and Wiregrass Foundation

Ozark (October 14, 2016)  Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the construction of its 125th home at a dedication ceremony Tuesday, October 18th in Ozark at 3111 North Union Avenue, Ozark. The new homeowners, Amy Hume and her son, are very thankful to all those who worked so hard to help them reach this goal.  Publix Super Market Charities and Wiregrass Foundation made this home possible through their support.  We had many volunteers to help build this home including Miss Alabama contestants, Ft. Rucker soldiers and Publix Super Markets employees and Lowes employees.

We are excited to have volunteers from Publix Super Market Charities, the Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors as well as friends and family of the homeowner participate in the dedication. The family will be presented with the key to their new home as well as a Bible.  Ms. Hume and her friends and family have performed 500 sweat equity hours working on their home and the homes of others as a requirement for becoming Habitat homeowners.

Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity and Ms. Hume would like to invite the community to celebrate with them as well as the volunteers who spent many hours of their free time to help build this home.  The dedication and celebration of the home will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18th.

Through donations of money and materials and volunteer labor, Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity was able to build the home and sell it at an affordable price. The Humes will purchase the home with a no-profit loan, and their monthly mortgage payments will be used to continue the mission of eliminating substandard housing in the Wiregrass.

Amy Schutz, Executive Director with Wiregrass Habitat for Humanity, said "We had such a wonderful time working on this home with Amy Hume as well as the volunteers who gave so graciously of their time to help build it. We had volunteers of all ages, from beauty queens to soldiers defending our country. It was such a blessing to see them working together to help Amy have her home."
