Fatal Escambia County Crash

Escambia County, Florida: The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a traffic death that occurred in Escambia County on 1-14-13. The crash reports shows that a vehicle was stopped in a driveway off of Desoto Road. The vehicle was backing into the driveway at the residence when the passenger of the vehicle got out and to open the double medal gates in the driveway. The vehicle then started backing up the driveway when the dog that lives at the residence jumped into the vehicle and climbed into the floorboard of the drivers side. The dog is reported to have caused the gas pedal to be pressed. The passenger of the vehicle was behind the vehicle when it accelerated, causing the passenger to be pinned under the vehicle. The passenger, James W. Campbell, of Cantonment, Florida, was pronounced deceased on scene by Escambia County Paramedics.
