A 1989 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on County Road 30-A. The Jeep was an open top Jeep Wrangler with no side doors attached. The driver, Mark P. Doherty, 41, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, was not utilizing the available lap and shoulder restraint. For reasons unknown, Doherty failed to maintain control of the Jeep. The Jeep left the paved surface of the road to the northwest. The front right side of the Jeep struck a guardrail. The Jeep then rotated clockwise and Doherty was ejected from the vehicle. Doherty received critical injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at Sacred Heart Hospital in Walton County.
This crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit.
