James Lamar Ammons just left his residence and was westbound on a private (dirt) drive, just East of Ammons Road. Ammons lost control of the vehicle and struck a pine tree on the South side of the private drive. The vehicle then crossed back over the private drive and came to final rest in the bushes on the North side. Ammons was transported via helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. Ammons passed away from complications from his injuries on 09-18-2012. The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Team is investigating the crash.

The driver was identified as James Lamar Ammons, 64, of Defuniak Springs, Florida.
