MONTGOMERY AL:    Appointed from Dothan Alabama by Former President Jimmy Carter, Federal United States District Court Judge Myron Thompson has announced he will take senior status. This will allow President Obama to appoint a new United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Alabama.

Reports are Judge Thompson moved to senior status on Thursday. At senior status it reduces Judge Thompson's case load.

At the time of his appointment and confirmation by the United States Senate, Myron Thompson was a resident of Dothan Alabama and a practicing attorney in Dothan. Thompson was 33 years old at the time of his appointment.

Federal District Court Judge Myron Herbert Thompson was born on January 7, 1947 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Lawrence and Lillian Thompson. At age two, Thompson contracted polio and spent much of his time alone, finding solace in jazz and classical music. He attended Tuskegee Institute High School where he was named class salutatorian in 1965. Thompson received his B.A. degree in political science from Yale University in 1969 and his J.D. degree from Yale Law School in 1972.

Judge Thompson ordered the removal of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama Supreme Court Building when Roy Moore served as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. At the time Bill Pryor served as Alabama Attorney General.

Moore refused to obey Judge Thompson's order. Pryor prosecuted Moore before the Judges of the Judges and Moore was removed from the elected office of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Pryor went onto be appointed as a Federal Appeals Court Judge.

Judge Thompson presided over the two trials in the 2010 cases against 9 persons charged in the gambling cases. The first trial ended in some cases being found Not Guilty and Judge Thompson dismissing some cases. There was a second trial, and all 9 defendants were found not guilty.

The Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Sue Bell Cobb resigned from office. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley appointed his Chief of Staff and Former Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge Chuck Malone as Chief Justice. Come election time Judge Malone, former Alabama Attorney General Charles Graddick who now serves as Mobile County Circuit Court Judge, and Roy Moore sought election as Chief Justice. Moore defeated both opponents in the primary without a runoff.

Issuing the order which led to Moore being removed from office as Chief Justice, it is interesting the timing of Judge Thompson's change while Moore is back on the Alabama Supreme Court. This statement does not mean there is any connection which caused the change, just interesting the timing of the change and how the wheel turns.

AND GOD BLESS THESE THIS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

When the Clerk of the Court in the United States Federal Court announces that Court is now in session, in Judge Thompson's courtroom and others, it is interesting the female Clerk I have heard, makes the statement " GOD bless these this the United States of America and this Honorable Court", court is now in session.

Yet the display of the Ten Commandments creates a Judicial Order from Judge Thompson, which Judge Moore disobeys, that results in his ouster by one who later gets a Federal Judge appointment. Then the ousted Supreme Court Justice later gets re-elected...funny how things revolve.
