On June 29, 2015 at approximately 9:40am a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was parked near the Marathon Gas Station on Highway 69 and I-10 in Grand Ridge. The store clerk informed the officer of a suspicious incident where a female driving a small sport utility vehicle had attempted to sell collector type coins. The clerk declined and the driver of the vehicle left the store headed east on a dirt road. The deputy having knowledge of the vehicle description followed in the same direction that the driver of the vehicle had taken. Near the intersection of Blueberry and Shady Grove Road, the deputy observed a vehicle matching the description given traveling east in a reckless manner. From a distance the deputy saw the vehicle accelerate and run the stop sign at the intersection of Blueberry and Shady Grove Road. Once the vehicle crossed the intersection traveling onto Hill farm Road the deputy lost sight of the vehicle. The deputy stopped and safely cleared the intersection and followed the vehicles direction around a curve. The deputy came upon the vehicle which had crashed into a large open barn striking several farm implements and equipment. E.M.S. and F.H.P. were notified and it was determined the driver was deceased from injuries sustained from the crash. The investigation was then turned over to Florida Highway Patrol.
