The Downtown Group (DTG), a medium to focus on commerce, culture and community in Dothan downtown, will host the first Foster Fest of 2014 this Friday, May 16th and is proud to feature Shane Owens Band on the Main Live Stage.  “Shane Owens has a huge following in the Wiregrass area and we wanted to open our 2014 Foster Fest season with this amazing country and southern rock artist,” announced Jill Williams, Executive Director of The Downtown Group.  “We want to kick things off in a big way and keep our momentum going every third Friday each month through our last event on Friday, October 17th.”

In addition to the big music feature, the best in show car will win $250 at each Foster Fest - up from the $50 best in show prize during 2013.   “Classic cars are a big focus during Foster Fest and we want to keep attracting the best cars from all over the Wiregrass and Florida Panhandle.  These cars are works of art and the time, effort, love and money each owner puts into them is extraordinary,” stated Jill Williams.

Foster Fest events are free, pet and family-friendly and take place on the third Fridays of May through October from 6:00 – 10:00pm.  This year, the events have expanded to include the 200 block of North Foster Street as well as the original 100 blocks of North and South Foster.

Friday’s Foster Fest will be the second event to utilize the new Entertainment District open-container ordinance passed in March.  The first event, International Foster Fest, was a resounding success.  This year, Foster Fest is sponsored by Coors Light, Miller Lite and Belvedere Vodka.  Patrons can purchase Coors Light, Miller Lite and Belvedere’s Foster Fest cocktail at any licensed bar within the footprint of the event and carry it onto the street for enjoyment as long as it is in a shatterproof container (no glass).  Participating bars include: Bullet’s Speakeasy, Blue Moon Cajun Café, KT’s, Oak 151, The District, The Loft on Foster, Bella’s and Mrs. Boomers.  Each Foster Fest will feature a new “Foster Fest Cocktail” – with recipe and instructions on how to enjoy at home.

The following are the dates for Foster Fest in 2014:

·       Friday, May 16

·       Friday, June 20

·       Friday, July 18

·       Friday, August 15

·       Friday, September 19

·       Friday, October 17

The DTG, located in Dothan, AL, is the marketing arm for Dothan downtown, focusing on building community awareness and participation downtown.
