Dothan, AL – The Alabama Kidney Foundation is proud to announce that its first “Make a Difference… One Step at a Time” Walk-a-Thon will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Dothan at Northview High School.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Walk kicks-off at 9:30 a.m.

The Walk-a-Thon features a continental breakfast, lunch, snacks, music and fabulous door prizes.  The event offers family fun with a children’s activity area featuring face painting and a moon jump.  A $25 minimum collection of donations is required for adult entry, which will provide access to all the fun of the day, which concludes with awards.  Dialysis patients and children are invited to attend for free.

Participation in the 2013 Walk funds the Foundation’s programs which are provided free to Alabama’s kidney patients in need.  “Known as the silent killer, because the symptoms are masked until the kidneys suddenly shut down, kidney disease is rampant in our state, particularly among African-American males,” says Regional Director Amy Godsoe.  “400,000 Alabamians suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease, ranking Alabama fifth in the nation for the occurrence.  Many of these individuals depend on our programs and services to help them experience life to its fullest,” said Godsoe.

The Alabama Kidney Foundation serves kidney patients by providing financial assistance, education and support services. The Foundation promotes public education to prevent kidney disease and raise organ donation awareness. For more information on how you can participate, contact Amy Godsoe at (334)241-0003 or visit www.alkidney.org.
