DOTHAN: The Murals of the Wiregrass board is proud to present the First Annual Mural City Art Walk. This event will be hosted on Saturday, March 1st,

2014 in beautiful downtown Dothan. Attendees will be treated to a variety of artists set up along the 100 block of Foster Street from 10am to 6pm.

This family-friendly event will showcase the talents of all artistic mediums from local artists, as well as artists from all over the Southeast. All art will be available for purchase, and entertainmene will be aplenty with performances by local theater groups, dance groups, musicians, and even a live mural painting We are still accepting applications from artists on our website www.muralcityartwalk.com and would like to invite all artists toparticipate. All artists will be invited to celebrate the day with a closing reception at the Wiregrass Museum of Art, which will feature dinner and performances by the Flagship Theatre and Wallace College Singers.

Mural City Art Walk Chairman, Susan Herring, states, “The Mural City Art Walk is a ‘can’t miss’ event for Dothan. It will be the perfect showcase of our local, talented artists and I can not wait to find some new art pieces for my home.” Ms. Herring encourages all of Dothan to come out and support this event. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Murals of the Wiregrass, which proudly maintains 17 murals throughout Dothan.

Savannah-based artist Troy Wandzel has been a fixture in the Wiregrass since January when he installed an exhibition at the Wiregrass Museum of Art, titled “Storm.” Wandzel has been a contributor to numerous community art projects and events throughout his career and will be back in Dothan to participate in a public mural project sponsored by the Murals of the Wiregrass board on March 1.

To coincide with the Mural City Art Walk on March 1, Wandzel will be the first contemporary artist to participate in the “Living Wall” project, an exciting new initiative by the group. For his part, Wandzel will collaborate with community members and visitors of the ArtWalk to create a vibrant, interactive addition to downtown Dothan. The mural will be located in Porter Park on North Foster. Committed to painting from life, his work presents interest in the human figure, with the focus primarily on the elasticity of the skin and the form that it represents, thus allowing the eye to do what it does naturally; bring colors and shapes into recognizable form.

Troy Wandzel was born in Golden Valley, Minnesota. He received a BF in Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Through out

his career as a painter, he has exhibited around the globe including Sotheby ʼs Auction houses and the Mona Bismarck Foundation in Paris. His work is included in multiple collections and publications, both  nationally and internationally.
