DOTHAN, AL- Five Star Credit Union, a member-owned not for profit financial institution, has had a long-standing reputation in Alabama and Georgia for supporting the community through charitable contributions, volunteerism and support to various community projects. Some of the many fine community projects Five Star Credit Union has supported in the past have included the Kiwanis Club of Dothan’s Family 4th Celebration, The Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank, the Downtown Christmas Festival, Pig Tales (a creative writing contest in conjunction with the Tri-State BBQ Festival), Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society and countless youth sports programs.

Five Star Credit Union continues its work of involvement and support of the community by sponsoring a Dining Tent at this year’s upcoming fall festival, PorktoberQue. PorktoberQue is a combination of a sanctioned barbecue competition and Oktoberfest, held the first weekend of October in Dothan, Alabama. The barbecue competition is overseen by the KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society) and will mark SouthEast Alabama’s first KCBS sanctioned event.
The FSCU dining tent will give visitors to the festival a place to sit down and eat barbecue (or other festival foods) and enjoy the sounds and smells of the festival. The Dining Tent, tables and chairs as well as other venues have been sponsored by local businesses so that the festival is completely free for spectators to come out and enjoy. Through support of businesses such as Five Star Credit Union, there is no admission charge for families to come out and enjoy PorktoberQue.

PorktoberQue will be held October 5-6 at the Houston County Farm Center. Friday evening from 5-9pm, come visit with the competition teams as they are getting set up and preparing to win $5,000 in prize money. There will be live music and many vendors will be set up with food and merchandise for sale. Saturday is the competition as teams from across the South compete for money, trophies, bragging rights and points on the KCBS professional circuit. There will be a BBQ tasting tent (additional fee applies) where spectators can sample dozens of different barbecue and vote for their favorite if they choose. Plenty to enjoy with live music all day, shopping in the vendors area, cold drinks and plenty of food available for all.

For more information on PorktoberQue, to become a vendor, enter a team or learn more, visit www.PorktoberQue.com or call The Main Event at (334) 699-1475
