FIVE YEAR OLD SURVIVES NEAR DROWNING

Quick action by a Louisiana visitor helped save the life of a five year old boy following a near drowning in Destin Friday evening.Deputies were called to Sandpiper Cove, 775 Gulf Shores Drive, around
6:30 p.m. after getting a report that a child’s body had been pulled from a swimming pool at the complex.
Witness 25-year old Maisie Patin of Aryaudville Louisiana said she had spotted a group of kids running in the area. One was carrying a child who appeared to be unresponsive. She began performing CPR and says the young
boy started to cough and spit up. Patin says she was then able to see a pulse.
EMS arrived and took the child, identified as five-year old Sebastian Jamal Stevens of Ventress Louisiana, to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. A deputy who went to the hospital found Sebastian alert and responsive. His parents say the boy, who’d been left in the care of an adult family member, was not allowed in the pool. However Sebastian said he jumped in because he wanted to swim with the others.
Sebastian is expected to make a full recovery. No charges are pending.
