DOTHAN: Marc Mero never had it easy growing up. He had several family members die at a young age and lost many friends to drug and alcohol addiction.

He may have been the tough guy as a WCW and WWE wrestler but as a motivational speaker we see a softer side to him.

After losing a close friend he decided it was time to leave the ring and make a difference in the leaders of tomorrow.

"I always said that there are two types of people,” said Mero. “There are people that say 'Something needs to be done,' and then there's a person that says, 'I want to go out there and do something.' I got so sick of sitting back and saying something needs to be done i wanted to make a difference in this world."

So, now Mark travels all over sharing his story from family problems to bullying, even becoming a millionaire and then losing it all.

He's been put through the ringer, but has lived to tell of it.

"I realize how precious life is and for me it’s about sharing no matter how bad it gets you can make it,” said Mark. “You can come back from adversity, its overcoming adversity. Because it's not about the circumstance or situation.  It’s how we respond to it and I want to give these students another way to respond to adverse situations."

His message was heard by many students in the audience.

"I realized I should be more loving to people and since everything was taken away from him it made me realize what all I have right now and it can be taken away just like that,” said student Alli Dukes.

"We have had some issues with bullying,” said freshman Oliva Starling. “I think that it is really going to change people's lives and they're going to realize they can achieve their dreams no matter what."

"It really touched home, you know. It put a big impact on a bunch of people's lives and we're lucky to have somebody come to school like that,” said Austin Bowden, senior student at Ashford High School.

Mero challenged the students to write a letter to loved ones telling them thank you. Something so simple had students realizing what's important in life.

"It just made me want to go to my parents and give them a big hug and tell them I love them. Because my parents do a lot of me and my dad's my hero,” said Carrie Mcwaters.

Now students have the tools from a professional wrestler on how to power slam their obstacles.
