Historical Re-enactors, Local Citizens Volunteer at Frontier Village for Work Weekend

-Fort Gaines, GA

Historic Frontier Village is receiving some much needed TLC by volunteers over the last few weeks. Twenty historical re-enactors and locals volunteered their time, talents and building supplies to begin renovation repairs on the historic buildings.  "We are thrilled to be working with such an enthusiastic group!  Re-enactors are passionate about historical preservation and having a great time, so they are a perfect match for Fort Gaines," Sheri Baker, director of the non profit group, Fort Gaines 200.

The repairs are coming just in time for the kick off of the Bicentennial Celebration of the 1816 military fort built during the first Creek Indian War.  The first in a series of events this year, "A Skirmish in Fort Gaines" will be held April 9 & 10 at Frontier Village.  Re-enactors will come from all over Florida, Alabama, and Georgia to inhabit the village for the weekend.  Spectators will experience first hand a "skirmish" between settlers and Indians. Demonstrators will be showing visitors how early settlers and indigenous Creek Indians lived during the early 1800’s.

Gates open Saturday, April 9 & 10 from 10am- 5pm. The "Skirmish" will begin at 2pm both days.  All times are Eastern. $5 adults, children free. Food and Entertainment for the whole family. Proceeds benefit Fort Gaines 200.  For more information about this and other events planned for this year visit the Fort Gaines 200 website fortgaines200.com or call Sheri Baker 334.750.7815
