On 3-15-15 at approximately 1:15 AM, a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to get on I-10 from Hwy 231. As the deputy was traveling up the on ramp to the interstate, he met a vehicle coming off the interstate on the on ramp, traveling against traffic.

The deputy turned around on the vehicle, which was a 2006 Pontiac passenger car and activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle fled down the ramp and continued on Hwy 231 southbound in the northbound lane with the deputy in pursuit.

The vehicle passed Dilmore Rd and stopped in Hwy 231 and backed up and turned eastbound on Dilmore Rd at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued down Dilmore Rd to the dead end at Stanland Rd, where the suspect vehicle crashed into a telephone pole. The suspect jumped from the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but the deputy was able to grab him at which time a struggle took place, with the suspect striking the deputy several times.

The suspect was able to escape the grip of the deputy and fled into a wooded area, where the deputy was able to catch him again but could not keep his grip due to the terrain in the woods. The suspect fled from this wooded area across a pasture into another wooded area.

The K-9 tracking teams from Jackson and Appalachee Correctional Institutes responded and began to track the suspect. The suspect was tracked over several hundred acres of farm land until after daylight when he was spotted by a resident in the area, crawling across the yard.

After another short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody by the K-9 tracking teams. During this foot pursuit the suspect did damage a privacy fence of a home in the area.
