FRONTIER VILLAGE COMES ALIVE TO MARK THE BICENTENNIAL

Fort Gaines, GA- April 2016 marks the 200th birthday of the first garrisoned fort built on the bluff of the Chattahoochee River in Fort Gaines, GA.  Fort Gaines 200, the bicentennial committee, has scheduled events throughout this year. "We thought it would be appropriate, fun and educational if we started with a reenactment of the time. So we have partnered with several reenactment groups from all over the Southeast to bring a weekend of Living History to Frontier Village." 


The weekend will open with a free event, "School Days at the Fort" on Friday, April 8 from 10am - 3pm.  The Village will become alive with reenactors demonstrating everyday life of the early 1800's. "This is a great opportunity for families to come to Frontier Village and experience frontier living first-hand."


Saturday and Sunday, April 9 & 10, the fun continues all day from 10am - 5pm.  As a special treat,the reenactors will present "A Skirmish at Fort Gaines" beginning at 2pm.  Spectators will have a front row view of an historically accurate encounter between Creek Indians and Frontier Settlers.  


World Champion BBQ, Vendors, Music, and Demonstrations all weekend long. The cost to get into the Skirmish is $5 for adults and will be charged from noon to 2pm, children are free. Proceeds help to fund the bicentennial events. ALL TIMES ARE EASTERN
