FT. RUCKER:   A military trial that began on post at Ft. Rucker on Friday night continued through the weekend.

While the military has not released the verdict, according to sources close to Ft. Rucker the military trial resulted in a GUILTY verdict against Lt. Colonel Christopher Don Wood.

Reports are Lt. Colonel Wood was in charge of financial services at Ft. Rucker.

Wood was arrested by Daleville Police Department and booked into the Dale County Jail on July 3, 2014. The offenses were electronic solicitation of a child and felony traveling to meet a child for a unlawful sexual act.

The arrest occurred when Wood went to meet the child in Clayhatchee. The child turned out to be law enforcement which posed as a child.

After posting a $ 50,000.00 bond in Dale County District Court, the military picked up the investigation with Daleville Police. Later the military indicted Wood on 19 counts.

After much discussion with Dale - Geneva County District Attorney Kirke Adams, the local state charges were dismissed and the case turned over to the military unit for prosecution.

At the time of the dismissal of the state charges, District Attorney Kirke Adams said, if convicted in the military court, Wood could face up to 75 years in federal prison in Leavenworth Kansas if convicted on all 19 counts.

We do not know if Wood was taken into custody or released pending sentencing. But we understand sentencing has been set for June 4. But what we understand the conviction was for was "attempted". Wood will face up to 15 years in prison and a dishonorable discharge from his some 26 years of military service. Wood will be required to register as a sex offender.

Still question a trial on military base on a weekend beginning at 6 PM on a Friday night and going through the weekend. A good way to fly under the radar and keep media in dark.
