Wednesday, Jan. 20, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's (ALEA) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit arrested Stephen Wade Reeves, 28, of Hartford on five counts of Possession of Child Pornography and three counts of Dissemination of Child Pornography. Reeves was booked in the Geneva County Jail with no bond.
Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said, "Specialized units in ALEA, such as ICAC, do phenomenal work. ICAC's sole mission is to protect the children of this state from some of the vilest crimes imaginable. In 2015, ALEA arrested 42 child predators in Alabama and assisted on similar cases all over the nation. ALEA's budget was slashed last year and additional cuts seem to be the mood of state appropriators again this year. So, my question to the Alabama Legislature is what is the value of removing 42 predators from the streets of Alabama? What is the value of holding these individuals responsible for harming our children? What is the value of keeping these predators from ever doing it again? As Secretary, I contend that the value is priceless. I also believe that the overwhelming majority of Alabamians agree that it is priceless. Our legislative leadership must lead and realize that they do not properly fund public safety"
ALEA’s Tactical Team, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Geneva County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation. No additional information is available as the investigation is ongoing.
