According to (WSFA): Alabama Governor Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency on Tuesday in preparation of possible winter weather. The state of emergency order will go into effect on Wednesday at 6 a.m. and will cover all counties in Alabama.
“With winter weather expected to impact Alabama, we are taking precautions to protect Alabamians,” Bentley said in a release on his website. “By issuing a State of Emergency, I have directed all state agencies to take necessary actions to be prepared to respond to the anticipated winter conditions including sleet, ice and snow. We will actively monitor the storm as it begins to hit the state and are prepared to respond to any requests for assistance.”
According to the National Weather Service office in Alabama, various parts of the state are expected to see ice, sleet, snow and freezing rain beginning Wednesday morning and lasting through Thursday.
The majority of the winter weather is expected to stay in the northern parts of Alabama, but some central counties such as Sumter, Greene and Hale could see some winter weather.
Bentley has also authorized 250 Alabama National Guardsmen to prepare to respond to any emergency requests for assistance.
