Governor Bentley and His Divorce Settlement

MONTGOMERY:    The divorce between Alabama Governor Robert Bentley and Dianne Bentley is their business. Except for the fact of the allegations in the public of his indiscretions with someone on his staff.


When Mrs. Bentley had Governor Bentley served the divorce papers there was something attached. A notice of deposition for the Governor. A deposition is under oath, before a court reporter. There is no Judge present.


The attorney for Mrs. Bentley would ask questions. If there was a question that Bentley did not want to answer, the Governor's attorney would object for the record but the Governor would still be expected to answer the question. The Judge would later rule on that objection.


When served papers a party normally has 30 days to respond to those papers. The Governor's 30 days came with a response and the divorce settled.


In my opinion it was settled because Alabama Governor Robert Bentley did not want to answer questions under the penalty of perjury.


Therefore the people of Alabama will not know.


 


THIS PAST SUNDAY


 


This past Sunday Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was in Dothan for the white coat ceremony in the Dothan Civic Center.


Now Governor Bentley knows me as Rickey, face to face. Once he was at a place in Dothan. A deputy cautioned me the Governor's security did not know me so be careful. I told him that I would not move and the Governor would walk over to me. And I was right.


Sunday I was outside along with John Taylor at the Tahoe the Governor was traveling on. As he left the Civic Center I was standing there with a video camera and the Governor never looked at me. Bentley asked security front or back seat but never looked.


The security had already said that the Governor's PIO said no time for interviews.


The real truth is, I do not mind asking him questions. And do not mind putting him on the spot.


But Bentley does not want to answer. In fact the last time he was in Dothan he said he would check into a question I asked and get back with me. To date that has never happened. And I never expect it to.


The people deserve an answer and Governor rest assured, I will ask you.
