POINT CLEAR AL:   On Monday we traveled to the Alabama District Attorney Association conference I in Point Clear Alabama.

We were denied access into the meeting. We were told it was for the District Attorneys only. Yet, they let Luther Strange, a private lobbist attorney to go into the meeting.

Understand,  we broke a article on Saturday there was a plan by the Executive Director of the Alabama District Attorney Association, Randy Hillman, to manipulate the association members into a resolution supporting Governor Bob Riley, Task Force Manager David Barber and their Mountain Brook buddy Luther Strange – candidate for Attorney General.

On Sunday, Alabama Governor Bob Riley called a Monday press conference with the District Attorneys at Point Clear.

Our understanding that some District Attorneys stood up to Hillman and said…no, we are not going to be used as political pawns and will not going to let you manipulate us.

When we arrived at the meeting, the first person we see in the hall…Lobbist Attorney/Attorney General Candidate Luther Strange.

We ask where is Attorney General Troy King. We were told that he was not invited,

Please note, according to sources, the Executive Director Randy Hillman hates Troy King and refuses to invite him to the meetings.

Some of have said Strange has made Hillman some employment opportunities if he is elected Attorney General.

We learned that Governor Riley has promised the District Attorneys money for prosecution of bingo cases, or crap cases. Riley has not promised them any money for prosecution of child molesters, pedophiles, murderers or rapists. Riley has not offered help to Dale County or Ozark Police in help of expenses in the search for the killer of two teenage girls.

But Riley will pay the expenses for bingo prosecution – “crap”, as the DA’s described it…so far $ 280,000.00 and climbing.

NOTE: Under Bob Riley’s administration, Alabama unemployment has hit double digits.  Riley is also talking about mandatory off days with no pay for state workers.

We have posted a audio version of the meeting. Here is a transcript as best we could get:

“ The bingo gambling whatever you want to call it. If you will recall the last time the Governor was here he pledged if anybody got upside down with some lawsuits they would help us with money to offset that expense.”

‘ We sent out a letter not to long ago asking you if you had any expense and you did to quanify them for me and get them to us”.

“ Right now, we are somewhere around $ 280,000.00 give or take that we have submitted to the finance director asking for reimbursement. We are very close to getting those dollars back.”

If you have not gotten that to us, if you’ve got bingo, gambling, whatever crap litigation going on in your circuit and you’re incurring expense in house or hiring outside counsel to manage, you need to get that to us quickly because I do not know that we have ---. “

“What I want is a good hard number that over estimates where we gonna be versus under that. Cloise to that, get in as quickly as possible”.

Is Riley’s position, according to his spokesperson, we are prosecuting…

This morning what I say was lack of state coordinated or lack of statewide prosecution meaning the Attorney General.

One D.A. replies that Riley’s spokesperson is to the right over to your left, the little balding guy. ( He was referring to Governor Riley’s task force manager D.A. David Barber).

Another DA quipped “ that was my substitute for no court cost bill was kickback from the gambling people and he has killed that”.

“ I have not heard coming from the Governor any complaints on the district attorneys, only the Attorney General for not stepping up and backing.”

“ Basically got ya’ll in, where the latest decision came down the Attorney General said I’m not getting into that, it is the D.A.’s Offices”.

One D.A. quips “ we are  his buddies now”.

One D.A asked was there anything on the gambling bingo resolution? Hillman responded “ We did not”.

Question from DA, did you decide not to do anything?

Hillman responded “ the Executive Committee decided not to do resolution from the body”.

Question, “what was the reason”.

Hillman responded “ we should, it is possible on some of these cases coming up the resolution could be…” ( unitelligable)

There is discussion if they are looking for cheap help supernumeries are available and the money paid.

Hillman warned the group, “ before we get off that subject, just so you are not caught flat footed, the press is outside and wants to ask questions on the gambling issue, so don’t walk out there and get blind sided.

One DA asked another to be his spokesperson and then asked another who quipped “none of their damned business, be glad to”, they then broke off into laughter.
