ALABAMA: Utility workers from across the state, many here in the wiregrass area of Alabama, Florida and Georgia, and across the country will be denied the right to vote in this years election.
Utility workers are the unnoticed heroes that keep us in the light, with warm air or cool air. They are the ones that go unnoticed until we flip the switch and have no power.
Many utility workers got deployed without notice or warnings over the weekend because to “Sandy”. They have been required to drive to New York and other areas to work the storm.
The rapid deployment will now prevent them from being able to cast their ballot in this year’s election. There was not time to get absent ballots and meet the required deadlines.
To a profession that goes unnoticed. To a professional that risks your lives during cold weather, heavy rains and winds, in dangerous conditions, to make us warm and cozy, THANK YOU for what you are doing.
To the Election Officials, I do not know if there is anything you can do. And often times government, when you can do something will not, might want to ponder this issue Friday and see if you can come up with some sort of solution.
