Helen Pilcher Gissendanner - Devoted Supporter of EMS

Ms. Gissendanner was the sister to the late Joe H. Pilcher and the aunt to Joey Pilcher. Mr. Joe H. Pilcher founded Dothan's Pilcher Ambulance. Mr. Joe's son, Joey, has continued on with the ambulance service serving Dothan - Houston County and the southern end of Dale County.


One of Mr. Joe's and Joey's biggest supporters was Ms. Gissendanner. She loved the emergency medical service and was always an encourager of Pilcher's Ambulance.


PINCKARD. . .Helen Pilcher Gissendanner, a resident of Pinckard, died Thursday afternoon, February 26, 2015, at her home. She was 88.



            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 2, 2015, in the Pinckard United Methodist Church with Reverend Anthony Tutor officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, Alabama.



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pinckard United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, P.O. Box 439, Pinckard, Alabama 36371.



            Mrs. Gissendanner was a lifelong resident of Pinckard, daughter of the late Espy Elmer Pilcher, Sr. and Hattie Woodham Pilcher. She was a 1945 graduate of Midland City High School and attended the University of Alabama. A lifelong member of the Pinckard United Methodist Church, Mrs. Gissendanner was a former member of the church choir and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, served on the Administrative Board and worked with the church youth. Mrs. Gissendanner was a founding member of the Reverend Lucy Hathaway Cornerstone Prayer Group. She was retired from Luzier Cosmetic Company as a cosmetic consultant. In earlier years, Mrs. Gissendanner was employed as a substitute teacher at the Dale County High School and the Pinckard Elementary School. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Kenyon, and two brothers, Espy Elmer Pilcher, Jr. and Joe Harold Pilcher.



            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Gayle Gissendanner Kenyon, and Linda Gissendanner Harvey (C. L. Harvey), all of Pinckard; three sisters, Gladys Adams Howell (Crawford), Evelyn King, and Sandra Windham (Sterling), all of Dothan; three grandchildren, Sherri Kenyon Johnson, Elizabeth Kenyon, Clayton Kenyon; two step-grandchildren, Teri Stewart (Rickey), and Chris Harvey (Marcia); one great-grandchild, Nicholas Kenyon; five step-great-grandchildren, Bryan Harvey, Jake Harvey, Elizabeth Harvey, Victoria Stewart Moore (Trey), and Olivia Stewart; a step-great-great-granddaughter, Sophia Moore.



            The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and special friends, Ruby Malone and Cassundra Knight, for their loving care and support shown to Mrs. Gissendanner during her illness.
