HENRY COUNTY: This was presented to me. I did not go looking for it.
This week was/is criminal jury trial week in Henry County Circuit Court. Someone on jury duty sent this picture to me and questioned "were their services really needed?"
A Henry County Sheriff Tahoe has a sticker on the back window: the sticker depicts two eyes with the quote " I see guilty people". This is on the county owned law enforcement patrol vehicle.
The text message sent to me from the juror read as follows:
"I had the honor of serving on jury duty this week in Henry County. Upon arriving at the courthouse, this decal caught my attention. It made me wonder, if my duty as a decider of guilt ( juror ) was really needed. The words protect and serve would be nice".
END OF TEXT.
LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER’S JOB
A law enforcement officer’s duty is to investigate, gather facts, not guesses, and put those facts together. The facts and evidence are then to be presented to a Magistrate and/or a District Attorney. Once presented, the facts and evidence are to be evaluated and appropriate decisions made as to (1) If ANY criminal charges should be filed, and (2) what are the appropriate charges based on the evidence and facts of the investigation.
Law Enforcement vehicles are not have stupid quotes and comments displayed.
A law enforcement officer is not to make the decision the person is guilty. The officer is to intelligently investigate the offense, gather facts and evidence, and them make an intelligent decision following that investigation if criminal charges are to be filed and a person or persons arrested.
THIS QUOTE WAS SENT TO ME BY A JUROR
This information was sent to me by a Henry County Juror. Apparently the inappropriate comments were alarming enough to the juror that they took the time to text message and send them to me.
Be professional, educated, honest and prepared.
